Brabantia supports The Ocean Cleanup
Brabantia helps people all over the world with solutions for waste management at home. With the recently introduced super sustainable newIcon pedal bin, the lifestyle brand contributes to managing the (plastic) waste in the world’s waters too. For every newIcon pedal bin sold, Brabantia donates to The Ocean Cleanup to help rid the oceans of plastic.

Great bin, small footprint
We love our planet as much as you do. That’s why we design recyclability into all our products. And with our newIcon pedal bin we’ve stepped up our game. These sustainable pedal bins are made of 40% high-grade recycled materials, and after use, 98% of the bin and packaging is recyclable. On top of that, for every newIcon pedal bin sold, we donate to The Ocean Cleanup. How beautiful is that?

Robert Engels, Category Manager Waste Management: ‘In 60 years, we have made over 50 million pedal bins. In the newIcon pedal bins we bring this expertise and focus on sustainability together. Besides the great design and beautiful colours, the newIcon pedal bins are a great step towards 100% recyclability and great value for money. Our best bins ever.’

The Ocean Cleanup and Brabantia
Waste management in the home has been one of Brabantia’s strong points ever since the introduction of the first pedal bin in 1953. The newIcon bin also helps solve the problem of waste not making it to the bin. For every newIcon bin sold, Brabantia makes a donation to The Ocean Cleanup. This advanced cleaning system, powered by ocean currents and invented by Boyan Slat at age 17, could theoretically remove about half the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 10 years. A prototype is currently being tested in the North Sea. In high tides or low tides, we will be by its side.

Robert Engels: ‘At Brabantia we want to make the world more beautiful today, and for generations to come. So we are not in this to fish for compliments; we are truly committed to helping The Ocean Cleanup clean up the world’s oceans. ’

About the bin
Brabantia’s newIcon pedal bins are not only iconic beauties, but they’re reliable workers too. Sturdy, and always standing strong because of their non-slip base and anti-tilting block. Thanks to the unique soft-closure feature, the lid closes smoothly and very quietly. And of course newIcon pedal bins are odour proof and easy to open, move around and keep clean. NewIcon pedal bins come in 3, 5, 12, 20 and 30 litres, all with a 10 year guarantee and a sample pack of Brabantia PerfectFit Bags. The new natural colours of Daisy Yellow, Clay Pink and Moss Green bring the total of colours to choose from to 13.

The newIcon pedal bin is available in store from October 2016.

Notes to Editor:
The Ocean Cleanup develops advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. Invented by then 17-year-old Boyan Slat, the network of extremely long floating barriers lets the ocean concentrate the plastic using its own currents. The array could theoretically remove about half the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 10 years. A prototype of the barrier is currently being tested in the North Sea.
